Contemporânea

Contemporânea is a independent publisher specialized in contemporary art that integrates a quarterly digital platform and two print editions per year. It is a space open to thought, critical reflection, and an understanding of contemporary creation and the inscription of its practices in a global context.

Its main goal is to promote and disseminate the contemporary art produced in Portugal. However, it also privileges other international perspectives, within the scope of the various contemporary artistic practices, which stimulate debate and critical reflection.

It includes several formats: criticism, written and visual essays, interviews, and various reflections on contemporary art and culture. It also includes artists’ projects and special thematic issues.

Contemporânea began its activity on a regular basis in April 2015.

The printed version of Contemporânea appears in 2018, in a thematic strand, with the aim of creating curatorial editions. To this end, an invitation is sent to a different curator, with the aim of creating differentiated content, favouring unique formats and visions, according to the specificity of each theme.
