Darja Shatalova

A central element of Darja Shatalova’s artistic process is the continuous collection of information through recording. The notation serves to structure, analyse and record events on the micro and macro level. Single pages with previous notations and test prints form the basis for a new book, which is overwritten with calculations and reflections. The process of collage over several months creates a multi-layered structure of symbols, ideas and graphics, merging into a complex composition.

The content of the originals serves as the basis for self-publishing of artist’s books in small editions. The books are machine-made or present hybrid forms of prints and original drawings, partly hand-bound. Usually the publication of a book accompanies a site-specific installation or performance.
