Description
Tara Books is an independent publishing house based in Chennai, who are known for working closely with indigenous and folk artists in India for nearly three decades. This presentation by Arun Wolf, who works as a filmmaker and editor at Tara, will explore the process of making books entirely by hand. By screening short films that accompany two book projects – The Deep and Brer Rabbit Retold – this talk will also take a closer look at the juxtaposition and coming together of different artistic voices, to enrich the worlds of readers and viewers.
About Tara Books
Tara Books is an independent publishing house started in 1994 by Gita Wolf. Over the years, she was joined by other creative friends who have helped Tara grow organically and in many directions.
Since 2012, Tara Books’ home has been the Book Building in Chennai, South India. Apart from the office, it houses a bookstore, a gallery, and a residential space for visiting artists, authors and designers.
Tara Books are a collective of writers, designers and book artisans who favour a non-hierarchical mode of functioning, informed by feminism and other movements for social justice.
